Closed captioning is available on many of Pluto TV‘s on-demand channels. Closed captioning is especially helpful for viewers who are deaf or hard of hearing, but it also improves accessibility for anyone streaming in a noisy environment or who simply prefers reading caption text for better comprehension.

How to Put Subtitles on Pluto TV

There are many ways to turn on closed captions, depending on the device you’re using. Here are ways to enable closed captions by browser, IOS device, or Android device.

Web Browser

  1. Go through the “Audio & Subtitles” button in the video player. The button is located below the video on the left side, between the Volume and Like buttons.
  2. Select “English” under Subtitles to activate the closed captions.
  3. If these player controls are not visible, try tapping your screen (on a mobile device) or pressing OK on your remote in the player window to bring them up.

For IOS, iPadOS, macOS, and tvOS

  1. Open the video. While the video is playing, tap the video.
  2. The “Audio & Subtitles” icon is in the upper-right corner of the video, beside the Volume and Full Screen buttons.
  3. Select “English” under Subtitles to activate the closed captions.

For Android

  1. Open the video. Below the video on the right, you will find three vertically aligned dots. Tap the icon of three dots.
  2. A menu will open. Tap the “Audio & Subtitles” button.
  3. Select “English” under Subtitles to activate the closed captions.

How to Troubleshoot if There are No Closed Captions to a Show in Pluto TV

Pluto TV channels often include English or Spanish closed captioning. This is because of FCC rules for IP-based closed captioning. Any English or Spanish content originally aired in the US with captions must retain them when rebroadcast online.

So, if there is no “Captions on” option under the Audio & Subtitles menu, captions may not be available for the show or movie that you wish to watch because it didn’t originally have captions on TV.

However, if the “Captions on” is activated in the Audio & Subtitles menu, then the captions should appear. If not, you can troubleshoot them with the following steps:

  1. Open accessibility settings in your device’s operating system to check whether captions are disabled.
  2. Close the Pluto TV app and open it again.
  3. See if the captions work in a different program.

Contact Pluto TV through their Compliance Contact Information if:

  1. A show’s captions work for a Pluto TV platform, but not in another.
  2. You believe the program aired on television with captions.

By submitting a compliance form to Pluto TV, they can investigate the issue and resolve it on their end.

What if Closed Captioning Isn’t Available in Pluto TV

Some Pluto TV content may not include closed captioning, especially if the show didn’t originally air with captions. If Pluto TV closed captions aren’t available, that’s where Enjoy Movies Your Way comes in.

Enjoy Movies Your Way is a profanity-filtering app that offers subtitles translated into over 120 languages. This gives you more control over how you personalize your streaming experience, even if your streaming app doesn’t supply captions.

Furthermore, Enjoy offers Stylized Subtitles, allowing you to adjust caption styling. From font style and size to color and background, you can adjust caption appearance settings to improve readability.

Enjoy Movies Your way also enhances your streaming experience with the following features:

  • Profanity Filters: Mute audio and skip scenes of foul language and mature themes from shows and videos by TV ratings, age of audience, or intensity.
  • Ad Skip Queue: For ad-supported plans, Enjoy helps reduce interruptions by using a queue system that works like a “virtual DVR” to bypass commercials and return to your content sooner.*
  • Playback Speed Control: If a service doesn’t support speed changes, Enjoy lets you adjust playback speed to save time or slow it down for clarity and appreciation.
  • Tag Mode: The standout differentiator—create custom filters for triggers, unwanted scenes, or specific phrases, then apply them across movies and shows (and share them with others).
  • Custom Stream Time Remaining: Set a time limit (like 20 minutes) and Enjoy adjusts playback speed to finish on time without skipping scenes—great for busy schedules.

*Not available for ad-tiered Netflix and Disney+ subscriptions.
