Why You'll Love House of the Dragon Season 2

After the less-than-enthusiastic response to the last season of Game of Thrones (GOT), the adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s “Fire and Blood” became a success. Set 172 years before Daenerys was born, it focuses on the three generations of the House of Targaryens.

(Spoilers below)

Once best friends as children, Princess Rhaenyra and Queen Allicent became bitter rivals over who was the rightful ruler of Westeros. Their children inherited their grudges and resentment against each other’s families, with one major conflict leading to the loss of an eye of Queen Allicent’s son, Aemond Targaryen.

When King Viserys I died, Queen Allicent crowned her eldest, Aegon II, king. Since Princess Rhaenerya is considered a legitimate heir to the throne, Queen Allicent gave her terms of surrender where Princess Rhaenerya’s sons would have honorable positions in the kingdom. Not wanting to break Westeros apart, Princess Rhaenerya considered the terms.

But all hope for a relatively bloodless outcome ended when her son was killed by Aemond, concluding season 1.

“House of the Dragon” is praised for its beautiful CGI, realistic audio effects, and heart-moving background music reminiscent of the GOT soundtrack. With the cast’s outstanding performance, they have breathed life into the pseudo-history of GOT. With Season 1’s ten episodes laying the groundwork for the civil war, the audience waits with bated breath for Season 2.

Why You May Not Want to Watch House of the Dragon Season 2

The “House of the Dragon” series is a character-led series weaving the history of the GOT. While the episodes offer exciting dragon fights and intriguing family feuds, the show may not be for everyone.

“House of the Dragon” is rated MA or for mature audiences only due to the following:
  • Language: Characters may sometimes express expletives such as f—k, s—t, and c—t.
  • Violence: Similar to GOT, “House of the Dragon” has scenes featuring brutal attacks, dismemberments, and mutilation with medieval weapons and contraptions. Domestic violence is also included in the scenes due to the fights between spouses and family members. Its scenes of miscarriages can also be described as graphic.
  • Sexual Content: As this is in the timeline of GOT, the series involves incestuous relationships between family members, affairs, nudity, and other sexual scenes.
  • Drug Content: While there are no drugs present, alcohol is frequently consumed in the scenes.
  • Mature Themes: The culture within the series and its complex messages, such as Princess Rhaenerya’s romantic relationship with her uncle, may need to be discussed with young viewers.
The nature of these scenes will most likely continue in Season 2.
